Dr. Starr was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and has lived in Oregon for over 50 years. He graduated from Lakeridge High School in 1976 and attended both the University of Portland and Portland State University in preparation for the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) School of Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1984. Post-graduation, Dr. Starr entered private practice, gaining additional experience and knowledge before purchasing a general dentistry and oral surgery practice in Southeast Portland, where he treated and cared for many surgical and restorative dental implant patients.
Due to his extensive training in oral implantology, Dr. Starr was one of few dentists who had the capability to care for surgical and restorative phases of dental implant treatment from start to finish, all in one office. During this time, Dr. Starr became involved with the local study clubs which focused primarily on dental implants and the Tucker Cast Gold technique. He gained extensive knowledge through the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), a major source for education in implant dentistry. Today, Dr. Starr is an Honored Fellow of the AAID and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral lmplantology/lmplant Dentistry. He is also the co-director of the Oregon Implant Continuum, where he taught, and continues to teach Oregon dentists the skills needed for comprehensive surgical and restorative oral implantology.
After leaving Portland in 2017, Dr. Starr and his wife relocated to Prineville, Oregon and purchased a modern building, transforming it into a beautiful, state-of-the-art dental practice with the latest dental equipment and technology, which opened at the end of 2018. Today, 7th Street Dental is known as one of Central Oregon's dental implant specialists.
In his spare time, Dr. Starr loves to race and is part owner of Oregon Raceway Park in Grass Valley, Oregon. When not behind the wheel, he and his wife, Valorie, raise alpacas. They currently have 25 of these wonderful animals living on their home property.
